Tomorrow, March 3, our community will vote on the updated Revenue Purpose Statement (RPS). This is an important opportunity for Keota to continue using Iowa’s Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) one‑cent sales tax for the projects that keep our schools safe, modern, and competitive.
What the RPS does
-
Keeps local control over how Keota uses SAVE funds for school infrastructure, technology, safety, and facility improvements.
-
Extends our ability to plan long‑term, aligning with the statewide SAVE law that runs through 2050. Many Iowa districts have already updated their RPS to match this timeline.
-
Supports essential projects such as technology for students, building repairs, safety upgrades, and learning environments that meet today’s expectations. Districts across Iowa rely on SAVE for these same needs.
What the RPS does NOT do
-
Does NOT raise taxes. The one‑cent sales tax already exists statewide and continues regardless of the vote.
-
Does NOT create new funding. It simply defines how Keota is allowed to use the SAVE dollars we already receive.
-
Does NOT change the sales tax rate or increase what families pay.
Why your vote matters
Approving the updated RPS ensures Keota can continue using SAVE funds with the same flexibility we have today—protecting our ability to maintain facilities, upgrade technology, and plan responsibly for the future. Without an updated RPS, our options become more limited over time, especially as the current RPS approaches expiration.
